Damn, I ended up mining.

Last night I, as the only active member of my corporation at the moment due to a loss of internet access brought about by my partner in crime moving house, was running missions and watching the corporation mineral levels slowly rise as I crunched down the loot that I was getting from mission running. I'm in Caldari space, which means that I end up with (when combined with buying from the market) lots of every mineral except Isogen because it just doesn't occur naturally and so has to be imported or crunched from loot. Well, that's what I thought before...

What's a weekend without controversy?

Things are afoot in the world of Eve. Blackhole Bob, the guy behind Eve Gathering and a very good newbie guide announced that he had issues with CCP and he was quitting the game. This was announced on his site in a message that was pulled before I got onto the story and had been replaced with a message that he would post a full account before the weekend. He also had pulled down the newbie guide, but that has since been restored due to, I believe, the number of emails he got about it. Now the site is purely...

Please don't make me mine

I think I've decided where the corporation stands with manufacturning now. The real kicker is that any profit from manufacturing tech 1 items seems to be totally swamped by what we can make from running agent 3s, let alone agent 4s. If you add to that the fact that mining is pretty boring too you end up with the unavoidable truth that without Tech 2 gear industry just doesn't pay for us. The thing is though, that isn't quite true. By not mining we limit our mineral gathering potential to loot from the missions and buying from the market and it...

Civilian shield boosters FTW

Fitting your ship is perhaps the most important skill in the game. Well, I say skill but with resources such as this thread it removes a lot of the guesswork and shows you what to aim for. Of course these setups are all useless if you don't have the skills to fit the gear, or the cash to buy them. The thing is that we were sitting outside our corporation headquarters looking to see what people were fitting using ship scanners in order to work out what would sell and one common theme was the usage of Civilian shield boosters. Now...

Whither Industry?

As the CEO of a small corporation with big ideas I've been thinking about ways to make money. At the moment trading and agent running are paying quite well, although the number of trade routes that are now so camped by Freighters that it'll take months to make any money off them is so high it's getting less and less fun to trade. We get a lot of scrap items from mission running and that means lots of spare minerals that we sell off or put into ammo. We're not blessed with any Tech 2 BPOs so we've not considered...

How to take screenshots in Eve

Taking a screenshot in Eve is as easy as just pressing the Print Screen key and then checking out your installation folder, but there are a few things you can do in order to make them look even better: Ctrl+Tab enables you to tab between the windows in the game. One of the options that comes up on this list is to hide the UI. You can set your camera to look at an object other than your own ship which means you can get the object you want to take a picture of as the focus of the picture. As well as...

Eve news from E3

OK, yesterdays news was pretty cool but we all knew it was coming. Todays is a lot better as I had no idea that they were going to add some communication alongside the chat channels in the game. How are they doing it? They're adding voice chat directly into the game. Eve perhaps needs it more than any other MMORPG so this is really great news and will save people needing to fork out cash for Teamspeak servers for their corp, although it does sound like you're going to have to fork out extra cash to CPP for the pleasure....

What does the future hold for Eve?

What does Eve have in store for us with the new graphics? This (80 Mb zip) should give you a nice look and once you've seen it you'll be thinking how old Eve looks. I think it's the lighting that's the real key to making it look so much better, and hopefully those changes will make it into the non-vista client.

Three years old today

Today (9th May) at 19:11 Eve time my main character turns 3 years old. I've not played constantly in this time as there were several periods where I haven't been playing but still three years is a long time in any of these games for me. I seem to remember starting the game a few weeks after launch, but it turns out that it was actually only a couple of days. So what did I get for my birthday? My agent gave me a Hookbill. I say gave, but she asked for a large chunk of cash too. To celebrate I had...

Corporation Goals

What is the goal for corporations in Eve? Ultimately the move to 0.0 is a pretty good goal for most Empire corps, but that's a long term goal when you're just starting out. Becoming bad arse Pirates/PvPers is another good long term goal. Generally a long term goal means meeting a set of objectives that mean that when you've met them you need a new set of goals because you've achieved something big. Short time goals are equally as easy to have as they can be simple things like "Get X many members" or "Buy a Freighter". It's the medium...

Players can be drones too

There are three types of players in Eve: Soloer, Drone and corp member. What you are depends on where you fit into your corporation, or more importantly what you are happy to get out of the game. Take the soloer for instance; they are happy getting on with it on their own. They may be in their newbie corp still, their own corp of one or more players who feel the same or even in a large corp that just acts like a very loose coalition of players. There's nothing wrong with wanting to play like this and to be...
