What is the goal for corporations in Eve? Ultimately the move to 0.0 is a pretty good goal for most Empire corps, but that's a long term goal when you're just starting out. Becoming bad arse Pirates/PvPers is another good long term goal. Generally a long term goal means meeting a set of objectives that mean that when you've met them you need a new set of goals because you've achieved something big. Short time goals are equally as easy to have as they can be simple things like "Get X many members" or "Buy a Freighter". It's the medium term goals which are the problem as far as I can see.
So what sort of medium term goals are suitable? The "Get X number of members" also makes a good medium term goal, as does "Be earning X amount per week". These are all pretty arbitrary though and so maybe goals such as "Be able to hold our own if presented with a war declaration" is a much better goal. Corporations in Eve are much more than Guilds and Clans, and the decisions get a lot harder.
This is of course all related to my discussions on drones yesterday as if you're not invested in the corporation goals then odds are you're probably just a drone. You may not care about the corp goals and just want to hang out of course, in which case you're probably not, but how well do your goals fit that of the corp? Do you even have long term goals yourself?
The biggest danger with goals though is what happens when you meet them. If you don't have plans beyond that then they can be quite a let down.
I wonder how the average small empire corporation deals with this?
