It's not that big a deal people!

Oh dear, Fark have noticed us.  I have only one thing to say about this whole incident: IT'S NO DIFFERENT TO ANY OF THE OTHER SCAMS IN GAME. EVE is a game about politics and scams. 700billion in a fake bank is what you should expect if, say, you invest in anything that fails the "Too good to be true" test. NOBODY gives you money for nothing and it's just scary the number of people who seem to have invested in this scam thinking it was legit. I've seen people saying how it's far different than the other scams in...

A useful tool for Eve manufacturers

It has often been said that Eve is a game that is a game about a Spreadsheet and I'd say that it's true. You will need a spreadsheet before long if you're going to do anything other than just blow things up and so a copy of Excel or Open Office is going to be very useful. Sometimes a whole application is overkill though and so I present to you Google Spreadsheets. AJAX enabled spreadsheets in your web browser with no installation required. All of your files are kept on their servers and so you can grab the sheets from...

New ways to occupy yourself when the server is down

It seems that EVE now has a new feature when the server is down. The login window now counts down the time until the server will be back up instead of just showing you the time at which it last checked. This would be a great feature except for the fact that it's currently counting down from 5 seconds over and over again and shows no sign of actually coming back up. I only wanted to do a quick mission but the server crashed while I was jumping to the right system. My luck usually has the crash happen while...

A way to get that extra edge as a solo carebear

I was reminded about the leadership skills in an email I received about a previous post and I thought I would mention a way to get a few more percentage on certain stats while you're missions running. It does require that you have two clients running and two accounts, but that isn't a problem for a great many people. The Leaderships skills are great. In case you haven't looked at them because you're a solo player if you're in a gang and in the same system you get a bonus to some ability. The leadership skill itself gives you a 2%...

The patch is live

The latest patch for Eve, called Dragon, is now live and ready for people to moan about. The first obvious change was the message that I was #1 in the queue to log in, but the patch system says that a login queue is disabled at the moment. I assume it's going to be login throttling for after downtime as we don't have any World of Warcraft style full server situations. Big news for mission carebears are that courier missions are mostly gone (yay, the most boring thing in the world. Even more so than mining), but it seems the...

You have all upgraded from Window ME haven't you?

"On Tuesday, 22 August, we will deploy our latest code base, "Dragon", to Tranquility. This codebase includes numerous improvements, optimizations, the multiple language framework, enhanced security and encryption." It's nearly patch time (login required) and the chaos that always brings so it's time to start planning what you're going to be doing on the 22nd. This is of course good news because any time that they say "optimizations" it's a good thing. Any speed improvements are a good thing, especially in Jita on a Sunday evening or whenever a large group of people get together in order to blow each...

They cost HOW much?

This post is partially in response to this dev post, but mainly it's a response to all of the forum posts on this over the last six months or so. One of the reoccurring gripes on the Eve forums is the price of HACs. For anybody who isn't sure a HAC is an uber cruiser that can destroy anything in the game just by looking at it and generates random Tech 2 blueprints every time you look in the cargo bay. Well you'd think they were that great if you were going by the forums. Please forgive the Caldari bias...

A Summer Lull

Every year I seem to get a summer lull in Eve. My enthusiasm is concentrated elsewhere and I just end up running the odd mission now and again. I've quit before because of it but now I can recognize it for what it really is: just a temporary thing. This is a different lull than I was in a while ago, but that one has a more immediate solution. Yeah, I know. It's all a series of lulls at the moment. Despite the lull I am currently working on my big plan. I need to get into the larger...
