Warcry have a nice piece up on Stargate Worlds, which I'm sure somebody will cover better than this. The big highlights are that they want to mix up the combat a bit and try something new (please do, we need more innovation in games!) and they think their license will be a big help. I think they're right and the game is looking somewhat gorgeous due to their choice of graphics engine, the Unreal engine, which is also used on many of the best looking games out there.
They're also having minigames for classes such as the archaeologists to use in order to do their thing. That's when it gets a bit strange as it's followed with this: "so while the Soldier lobs frags at the enemy, the archeologist might have to disarm a bomb or pick a lock."
You call this archaeology? Now I know some archaeologists and I've been known to dabble with a trowel myself and I've never once seen any evidence that bomb disposal or lock picking skills as part of the core required skillset. To be fair I've never encountered anybody who has needed historical knowledge in order to deal with ancient alien civilisations, but I suspect I just don't hang out with the right people for that. Never mind that the Daniel Jackson character was far more a historian than a get your hands dirty archaeologist and exists in the dynamic to provide exposition to the viewer to fill them in on the plot, but it does sound like they're having a bit of a tricky time fitting the concept into their structure and there's going to be lots of the equivalent of, or probably literally be, sliding block puzzle games.
Still, any game that gives me the opportunity to screw up as much as your average Stargate team member on the show can't be a bad thing.
Release seems to be still set for this Autumn so we'll soon see.
