Another thought about Vista

It strikes me that Vista with all it's 3D card needing goodness becomes the next big workplace pecking order item. Those who have PCs that can run the funky UI will be above the poor old UI people so much that you're probably better off just putting it into Win2K mode and pretending that's all you have. Remind me to mention to the boss that I need a better graphics card if he wants the fancy flightsim UI.

The most depressing thing about new windows versions

The most depressing thing about running a new version of Windows is when you realise that your oh so good product doesn't behave corrently on it. I've never seen so much black in my life, chalk that one up to "Fixed in the next version" as that should be fixed as a side effect of the UI changes that we're adding now. So what's my opinion of Vista so far? The fancy transparent windows look good, as does the window fade in and out. I have two monitors on my desk and the second is connected to my Mac. The Mac...

An idea for Windows setup

I'm currently installing the December CTP of Vista and there's a feature of the install that I think would be nice under the advanced disk options when you're choosing where to install the thing. I have far too many partitions that all have different versions of Windows installed (yes, I have heard of Virtual PC) and the biggest problem with installing was trying to figure out which partiton needed to be reformatted for me to use. It would be nice if there was an option to look at the files on the disk before hand so that you can see...

Apparently I am an idiot

Please forget what I said before about coverage analysis and manual tests. Although the UI doesn't automatically start the executable for you in manual tests it is still more than capable of collecting coverage analysis data for that test run. This is of course exactly what I want. I am an idiot.

Latest Team Foundation Server Update

We've been using Team Foundation Server for a while now and so I thought it was time to give an update on where we are, and what I think. Source control. If you ignore the disconnected mode being less than optimal then I have to say that MS are pretty much spot on with what we need for source control. The association of work items with checkins even helps with a comment we received after our last quality audit (yeah, they're as fun as they sound) and all in all it's a really nice experience. Testing. We all hate it, and most...

A really interesting music site

www.pandora.com is a strange online music station where it plays music based on what you like. It seems to have difficulty with the rather strange range of musical tastes I have

An update on Team Foundation Server

The server is all running fine now as far as I can tell, although some clients are failing to fill their report lists. This hasn't mattered until now as I've only just got them working properly. I said I'd post about my experiences with the source control, so here are my thoughts on a week of serious work. This time includes a weekend where I was coding quite a lot at home putting 3D graphics into my project. The biggest pain is the lack of a usable disconnected mode. This is almost enough of a downgrade from CVS to make me...
