So a quick recap of The Blogless Days, just in case anyone is wondering what I’d been up to in the intervening months.

Canceled Planetside; reason cited this time:

“Big Robots, Bombers and Artillery make the game very unenjoyable for Infantry”

Which I thought was a fair and objective assessment, despite me usually being the first grunt to get hit by the bomb/megadeath plasma shell/big robot foot. However, this recent patchnote made me perk up a bit, and I may be back there some month soon. It still remains one of the more unique and awe-inspiring online experiences currently on offer, although no matter how good it is, it’s not the sort of thing you can keep up for five hours a night, seven days a week.

I’m also currently subscribed to Star Wars: Galaxies, and got the recent space expansion, Jump to Lightspeed. I’m just about out of the usual ‘honeymoon’ period on that, so a more in depth review should be along soon. I’m still finding aspects of that game I never spotted over a year on.

EVE Online: Exodus expansion happened, and to be honest, although it now has a much improved and frankly very sleek and clean UI, deadspace ‘dungeons’ and a bunch of new ships, it still isn’t significantly different to the game that first launched. I kind of like it, but for odd reasons previously expounded on, and couldn’t really recommend it to anyone else. I’m still signed up to it, but probably shouldn’t be, given the lack of time I put into it, and fulfilment I get out.

And I finally caved in and bought Everquest II, partly because I’m weak, but partly curiosity. Just what is the Next Generation of MMORPGs supposed to look like then? Newbie Tutorial Honeymoon is no basis for a recommendation, so I’ll hold my peace on that for the moment. Expect rants soon though, as the inevitable rocks get lifted up and the usual nasty crawley things scuttle out.

I’ve also recently upgreaded to XP, and can now play a good number of ‘Will not run on Win2K’ Classics again, so have been beating Shodan about a lot, and conquering Alpha Centauri. Oh, and watching far more Stargate SG:1 than is healthy.

Monster of the Day: Arachnid Annelid - System Shock 2

“…created as a part of an army of bio-mutants by the insane A.I. Shodan, these eight-legged spider-like creatures are pale yellow in appearance, and grow up to four feet in diameter. Highly toxic, they are especially resistance to energy-based attacks, and in later stages become so translucent that the hunter may not even see them in dimly-lit rooms, even if they are poised to attack! Track them by the distinctive noise they make, and use anti-personnel ammunitions for maximum effect…” - Monsterhunter's Compendium, 1887 Edition.
