I appear to be settling in well, if the Villagers are anything to go by. So far I've destroyed two vampyr, three werewolfs, eight goblin and one mummy. I thought that last was a little on the odd side, and as it happened, it transpired that it was not a real mummy at all, but old Mr Carsons, the abandoned fairground owner, in disguse. I destroyed him anyway, as in my opinion, monster hunting has no room for tomfoolery like that, and we all know what happened to the little boy who cried 'Werewolf!'.

The Villagers, ever critical of mysterious wandering monsterhunters, seem to hold my initial efforts in some grudging respect, although their constant niggling over 'technique' is beginning to grate rather. One of them did give me a gift though, in recognition of my services so far; a nearly mint copy of 'Podridge's Monsterous Almanac, 1886 Edition.' Many of the pages are either bloodstained beyond legibility, or missing entirely, but I still feel it will be an invaluable reference.

A sample passage: 'While garlic is widely known to be effective against vampyr, few think further than that. Certainly Common Garlic, allium sativum is known to be a potent weapon, but what of the other members of the allium genus? This genus comprises nearly two hundred distinct plants, including the leek, the onion and the chive. Do these plants have a similarly delterious effect on Johny Vampyr? Alas, ours is a proffession that does not offer many second goes...'

A gripping read!

Stratics News

Again, I wasn't especially following this one, but it was basically Everquest/World of Warcraft 'and a bit'. There did rather seem to be a lot of these in the works at the moment and they can't possibly ALL succeed. All we need now is for 'Vanguard' to also catch the old 'steak in the heart' and perhaps then Stratics will have to start talking about Other Games. Ho hum.

In other news, World of Warcraft is soon entering it's 'EU Final Beta'. Quite why a game that has been out for at almost a month on retail in the US needs a european-specific beta before release here is beyond me, but I doubt I'm alone in europe in having my mind made up for me in the whole 'EQ2 vs WoW' debate, purely on timing.

Monster of the Day: Cthulhu, The Great Old One, The Sleeper of R'Lyeh

'...frankly chaps, I think we've bitten off a bit more than we can chew here. Still, got to give the old thing a go, what? So, to recap the plan: One - get absolutely squffy on opium to prevent going mad on sight. Two - Cartwright, Perkins, use the big lobster net. Three - Gregg, Dawson, Evans, Potter - you chaps poke it with tridents. Four - Smith, Entwistle, very large pan of boiling water. I mean really...it's just a big octopus....how much trouble can that be?' - Last Meeting Minutes of the Fotherington-on-Sea Monsterhunting and Horticultural Society, Jul 1884.
