The Approach of Symbiosis...

On the subject of obsession, clinical addiction and games-become-reality, Everquest 2 seems to have taken one more step into the Matrix-like dystopia Daily Mail columnists fear...the '/pizza' chat command.

When typed into the chat-box, it fires up your browser of choice, and takes you to a specially designed page on the Pizza Hut website, where you can order pizza to be sent to your PC Gaming Cryopod, thus negating the typically tedious business of going off and having a meal, etc.

I guess it was always on the cards, although it does seem a bit sinister in some vaguely indefinable way. Other chat commands we hope to see soon:

/pepsi
/walkdog
/appeasespouse
/selfesteem

I'd like to think it's a joke, and that all parties concerned will treat it with the contempt is deserves, but I'm afraid enough muppets will use it, to create a precedent...

The command i tend to use in EQ2 is /easeguilt. It takes you to a web page that describes the psychology of game obsession. It deals with personality archetypes that may need more stimulation than others. It goes on to say that your need for gaming nrivana merely mirros the deep psychological need for achivement and acceptance. In conclusion, gaming obsession is your escape from a world that cannot accomodate you. It is not your fault that you have found an albeit selfish way of sating your lust for stimulation. Thus easing your guilt. It also comes with nifty little quotes to make you happier.

<br>The other one i use is /alarm nn:nn (in 24hr) a.. (string). This allows you to set one alarm with a string message to keep you on your toes and ensure you dont miss important deadlines, such as "go to bed" etc.
