It's that time of year again. I initially thought it was only something morons in the UK celebrate, sorry...perpetrate, but a bit of research shows I was mistaken.
Penny Arcade: Yanks get this too it seems.
Personally, I hate it. A day set aside for making credulous people look like idiots, and a day filled with paranoia for the rest of us. All the basic organs of civilisation break down; it is no longer possible to take any news, indeed, any information presented to you at all, at face value. Simple people need all the help they can get, and certainly don't need to be told that spaghetti grows on bushes. It cheapens us all. Fortunately, the big news stories of today seem to be about things it would be in very poor taste to joke about, so we're spared some of it.
Of course the Interweb, being of dubious veracity on a normal day, becomes totally unusable today, so if you are even reading this at all on 1st April, well done. Yes, we're all fools, most of the time. It's part of being human. But this shouldn't be something we celebrate in a wierd game of free-for-all mental conkers.
Anyway, expect to see lots of stupid 'news' posts today, about 'Everquest III', the closure of World of Warcraft, 'Hello Kitty Online' and so on, and...don't...trust...anyone! (At least until tomorrow.)
