Saw a link to this site via my Everquest II launcher, while waiting for the usual interminable patching to finish:
Online Gaming Radio OGaming: EQ2's-day
I've not managed to actually catch a live show yet, and can't find any kind of recorded 'listen again' type of thing anywhere, but am listening right now to one of their archived interview pieces (Fan/News Site Designers Round Table).
It's certainly not the BBC World Service; it's stilted, technically amatuerish, and clearly none of the respondents are used to speaking in public much, (I'm not a big fan of trance or rave, either), but I kind of like it. It has a certain fresh innocence about it, and it's always interesting to hear what these other gamers and 'names' actually sound like. As a person that spends too much time on a website, rather than playing, the subject matter is quite interesting too.
I know I'd have a lot of trouble doing better. What with streaming, pod casting and broadband, it's probably quite easy to set up a rudementary 'radio show' of sorts, but it's more a question of self-confidence; anyone can anonymously blog, but hosting a radio show, no matter how small, is a whole new level. Just hearing my own voice played back to me freaks me out!
My only previous encounter with the idea of 'Gaming Radio' was back when I was playing Eve Online. Eve-Radio recently celebrated their first birthday, and I really enjoyed their blend of esoteric music, quirky DJs and chatroom and game-chat integration. For essentially a voluntary fan-based outfit, it managed to lend a whole new dimension to the game, and still manages to be a decent listen even if you know nothing about Eve Online.
So I'll make a point of catching the next 'EQ2's-day' show: Tuesday; 3pm PST, (1am UK time), and let you all know what I think!
