Not sure how long this has been going for:

City of Heroes: Free Trial

...but as regular readers will know, I'm a sucker for anything 'Free' in MMOs, so expect more in-depth details once I'm done with Project Entropia, but City of Heroes is one I've definitely wanted a look at for some time.

I've never really been into the whole Marvel/DC Comic collector thing. I'd say it's an American Cultural Thing, but I've known avid collectors here in the UK too. While I've no desire to get embroiled in the pedantry of what makes a Graphic Novel different to a Comic, all in all, I generally prefer actual novels, as they last longer and have better pictures. I did play Freedom Force, but found the whole thing a bit to brash and cheesy, which I suppose is the whole point of the thing.

So I already know I'm not likely to like it as much as most players will, but it intrigues me for a number of more technical reasons - in particular the gameplay style, which is apparently very casual friendly, being more in the line of Diablo II than anything more traditionally identified as an MMO in the classical sense. It has no economy at all, which is novel enough to warrant a look, and the character creation section itself is legendary. Also, I think the idea of a whole world of Superheroes, with all the obvious societal problems that implies, has to be seen to be believed.

So yes, it's a game i'd like to try, but wouldn't last me more than fourteen days. Lucky, that...
