Is this thing on? Well, that was quite a weekend, and I'm not even talking about the Monsters of Eurovision Rock Festival either. Much as I enjoyed seeing Lordi run roughshod over traditional European Musical Values, I had problems of my own over the weekend, in the form of a particularly vicious 'Spam Ragnarok' on the old comment threads, here in my inner sanctum itself!
At one point, the poor blogging difference engine was being hit once every six seconds by some poisonous server in linking to a drug resale site registered some place in South America, and in the end, it took my army of winged monkeys pulling the thing apart, and fitting it with an etirely different, and more spikey, set of cogs to stop the avalanche. It seems to have worked, but I'm still putting out the fires even now.
It should all be working again now, but it does make me despair for the future of the Internet. If it weren't for the suprising mechanical skills of my winged monkeys, my only other option would be to turn the comments off altogether - free speech surrenders. It'll always be quicker to set a machine pouring out gibberish, than to write gibberish oneself, and in this case, faster to post spam than delete it! Eventually, the machines will win, and we'll all be back to storytelling by the fireplace, and listening to lutes in taverns, for real.
Anyway, I'm busy, so go read SirBruce's ever excellent E3 2006 roundup, and maybe things will be a little less 'Kvatch-like' here tomorrow:
